About this deal

Damak: Damakta da burunda olduğu gibi meyve karakteri belirgin. Elma, armut, şeftali ve limon aromalarına meşe, vanilya, zencefil ve beyaz karabiber eşlik ediyor. 46% derecelik alkol kendini hafif hissettiriyor. Combine whisky, herbs and spices for 12 hours to infuse. Pass through a coffee filter and then dissolve honey into the strained liquid. Store at room temperature indefinitely. Enjoy neat, on ice, or combine with your Compass Box whisky of choice as a Rusty Nail-ish. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect.

London-based Compass Box does both styles of blending. I am generally pulled in by the brand’s attention to detail, and the fact that the blending is done to carefully marry flavors rather than stretch more flavorful malt whisky with milder grain. Much like a jazz musician pulls from the sounds from their band mates when crafting solos, Compass Box approaches their craft with intention and an open-minded palate. Helmed by John Glaser, the creative minds at Compass Box appear to strive for an elevation of established flavor profiles to find their balance in their spirits. This philosophy, in my opinion, tends to delivers a higher quality product. No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. Glaser likens what he’s doing to the Song Exploder podcast, where each episode a musician takes apart their song, and piece by piece, tells the story of how it was made. He wants to create Whisky Exploder, and get whisky-makers to take you through the inception and creation of a whisky – you heard it here first. This won’t surprise those of you who are already familiar with Compass Box however, as it’s long been a champion for transparency within the whisky industry.

The second issue is the category’s pricing past, “particularly in markets like here in the UK”, he notes. Glaser explains how “heavy discounting” began in the 1980s, when Scotch whisky sales and global shipments to established markets started to fall. Nice oily mouthfeel and the immediate sharpness of raspberries. The apple and vanilla notes are ever present and help balance out the berry tartness. The finish is like a warm toffee apple and right at the end is where I think I detect that tiny percentage of peat. It gently wafts in and adds an exclamation point to the profile. Water softens everything out and removes much of the sharpness. Orchard House is Compass Box Whisky’s newest addition to their Malt Whisky line (which is their core whisky line). It joins the ranks of The Spainiard, Peat Monster, Oak Cross, etc.

Conclusion: Orchard House is a good whisky at a great price. I put this right up there with Peat Monster as the two stars of Compass Box’ core lineup. If you’ve enjoyed the King Street releases, Orchard House is a great step up in quality and depth and can absolutely hold its own against single malts in this price range. Bushels of fresh cut honey crisp apple and pear notes really capture the scents that the bottle is named after.Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. Changing the rules required agreement between all 27 member states of the European Union. “And then Brexit hit, and they all got even less interested in changes,” Glaser says. However, he remains resolute that greater transparency is imperative to the category’s future success. So happy I almost don’t even care if it’s good… almost. I mean, if it’s not good I’m never buying another bottle and that would be sad. Right now my regular buys in the Compass Box line are the Spaniard, Peat Monster and Glasgow Blend which are all great, but it’s all a bunch of peat and sherry/wine casks. I’d love to add in an ex-Bourbon fruit bomb to the rotation. And maybe, just maybe, this will be the answer.

Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). Compass Box never seems to slow down its efforts, and when it’s not releasing new spirits, it’s revamping old ones. The Great King Street collection dropped between 2011 and 2014, launched to celebrate the preferred whisky styles of the people of Edinburgh and Glasgow (at least according to a book published in 1930). In 2021, Compass Box has dropped the Great King Street portion of the branding but keeps the subtitles of the two whiskies. (Though Artist’s Blend has now become just Artist Blend.) Both spirits have been “redesigned,” but it’s unclear to what degree; I haven’t tasted either of these releases in many years. It brings together some of the fruitiest single malts. There’s 39% Linkwood, 29% Clynelish and 20% Benrinnes, all aged 8 years in first-fill bourbon barrels, plus minor parts of Aberlour (Oloroso seasoned butt), Caol Ila (first-fill bourbon) and their signature Highland Malt blend (custom French oak barrel).

Verdict

Bu yazı ilginizi çektiyse; After university, Glaser was determined to become a wine maker in his US homeland – a desire that greatly influences his approach to whisky‐making today. But a wise word of advice from “a great friend and mentor of mine, Peter Holt” saw Glaser step out of the “long line of people trying to become wine makers in California” and into business school. From there, he secured a job in marketing with the world’s biggest blended Scotch whisky brand, Johnnie Walker. Looking to the next 22 years, Glaser has a simple, albeit global, ambition. “In a folder are all the things that are important to me in my life,” he reveals. This marks the start of an exciting future for Compass Box. Glaser is thinking long term into the next 10 and 15 years, laying down whiskies with future core products in mind – Orchard House is just the beginning! In each of his bottlings Glaser looks for a whisky that is “compelling”. Recent launches include August 2021’s Compass Box Orchard House, described as a fruit‐forward malt whisky, and a first for the company. Liquid was sourced from a number of distilleries known for their fruity flavour profiles, before being aged in a mix of Compass Box casks, including water‐rinsed, first‐fill ex‐Bourbon barrels, oloroso Sherry‐seasoned butts, and French oak custom barrels.

This 2021 release is a blended malt with the majority of the whisky coming from Linkwood (39%), Clynelish (29%) and Benrinnes (20%) distilleries, the remaining 12% from “a distillery near the town of Aberlour” (8%), Caol Ila (2%) and their Highland Malt blend (2%) which Compass Box uses in all their core line to varying degrees. Glaser sees wine as more transparent than Scotch, and he has been a crusader for greater transparency in whisky. At times, his devotion to the matter has landed him in hot water. For the first 15 years of Compass Box, he says, each bottle carried the name of the distillery where the liquid was sourced, plus percentages of each component of the blend, and more. That was until Glaser was reported to the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA). Glaser reflects fondly on working with “legends in the industry”, including recently retired Johnnie Walker master blender Dr Jim Beveridge, and Diageo master blender Maureen Robinson. “Blending really did capture my imagination as a creative platform,” Glaser explains. It is an idea that absolutely still has merit because age is not everything; older is not necessarily better, it’s just different,” Glaser insists. “It gives more interested drinkers an idea of what to expect.” We may sell, license, transfer, assign or in any other way dispose of the Service (including Members) to any third party without any notification to you, e.g. (but without limitation) in connection with any reorganization, restructuring, merger or sale, or other transfer of assets.
